Lorry Fleet at a Glance

A quick look at the lorries we run, what they carry, and what they’re typically booked for.

Lorry Type Length Capacity Typical Use
10ft Lorry 3.2m 1–1.5 ton Light goods, small equipment, workers transport
14ft Lorry Approx. 4.3m Medium load Office relocations, larger goods, moderate passenger transport
24ft Lorry Approx. 7.3m Heavy load Heavy machinery, large equipment, commercial transport

10 ft Lorries

10ft lorries are one of the most common lorries seen on the road and are also the smallest lorry of our entire fleet. The capacity for these lorries is typically about 1 ton and they can be used to transport light goods or small equipment. With a canopy, the lorry can also be used to ferry workers between worksites.

Lorry Dimensions & Specifications: Depending on your needs, we have 10ft lorries with different options. They are available with or without a tailgate, and can come as a box or with a canopy. The height of these lorries ranges from 2.8m to 3.2m, with a width of 3.2m and a length of 3.2m. The inner cabin height ranges between 1.9m and 2.2m, and the lorry has a capacity of approximately 1.5 tons.

Long Term Rental or Leasing: This option is popular for companies whose businesses involve frequent transportation. For example, the F&B industry uses 10ft lorries to deliver food between kitchens and branches. The construction industry uses them to transport materials and workers from site to site. The oil and gas industry uses them to move raw materials efficiently.

14 ft Lorries

The 14ft lorry is the medium-sized lorry of our fleet. It fits into most carparks yet can carry larger and heavier items than the 10ft lorry. It is ideal for office relocations or transporting bigger goods.

Features & Specifications: The 14ft lorry can be equipped with a tailgate, which allows heavy items to be loaded without a forklift. A cover can be added in the form of a box or canopy, either full or half, to protect goods from weather or to transport passengers, up to about 21 people. For the F&B industry, refrigeration systems can be customized to maintain the appropriate temperature for transported goods.

24 ft Lorries

The 24ft lorries are the largest vehicles in our fleet and have high carrying capacities. They are commonly used for transporting heavy machinery and equipment, and driving them requires a Class 4 license.

Features & Specifications: Tailgates are often required for the 24ft lorry to help load heavy cargo when forklifts are not available. Covers can be provided as open top, box, or canopy, depending on the size of the cargo and the level of protection needed from weather conditions.

High-Capacity Transport & Load Planning

Lorry transport requires careful planning to ensure that heavy and bulky goods are loaded safely and efficiently. Load planning considers weight distribution, item size, and delivery sequence to maintain vehicle stability during transit.

Proper stacking and securing methods are used to prevent shifting and damage, particularly for mixed loads or long-distance transport. This ensures that goods remain stable and protected throughout the journey.

Flexible Rental Options & Deployment

Our lorry rental services are available for different durations, including single trips, daily use, or longer-term arrangements based on operational needs. This flexibility allows businesses to manage transport capacity without maintaining their own fleet.

Deployment is coordinated based on job requirements, ensuring that the appropriate vehicle size and driver are assigned for each task. This improves efficiency and reduces unnecessary operational costs.

Driver Capability & Handling Expertise

Lorry operations require skilled drivers who are experienced in handling larger vehicles and navigating different delivery environments. Our drivers are trained to manage loading coordination, route execution, and delivery handling with precision.

They are familiar with industrial zones, construction sites, and commercial delivery points, allowing for smooth execution even in complex environments. This ensures that deliveries are completed safely and efficiently.

Route Optimization & Operational Efficiency

Transport efficiency is enhanced through route planning that considers traffic patterns, delivery timing, and access constraints. This reduces travel time and improves delivery consistency, particularly for multi-stop or high-volume operations.

Efficient routing also contributes to better fuel utilization and overall cost management, making lorry rental services more effective for large-scale transport needs.

Coordinated Execution & Service Reliability

All lorry rental operations are supported by centralized coordination, ensuring that job allocation, driver communication, and delivery progress are managed effectively. This allows for quick response to operational changes or unexpected delays.

By maintaining structured workflows and clear communication, Island Transport ensures reliable service execution for businesses requiring high-capacity transport solutions.
